Weekly Adult Beginner Classes
Brand new to sewing? Don't know where to start? The Magic Needle is now providing beginner classes to adults. Run on a semi-private basis, classes are restricted to only two or three students at a time so you get plenty of attention.
Bring a project in for help, or if you've never sewn before come in empty-handed. Your first project will be supplied for you, so there's no need to know what you're doing on your first visit. The prospect of choosing your own fabrics and patterns from a fabric store can be an overwhelming one, so before you make the purchase for your following project, you will learn how to choose and purchase fabrics and projects to suit your level.
In the studio you will have the use of a computerised machine and quality sewing and quilting tools, and access to a variety of appropriate beginner patterns. You will be able to work at your own pace on projects of your choice and welcome to tackle any area of sewing that interests you, whether that be quilting, making and mending clothing or useful things like bags, or repurposing old items from home. Whatever you choose, the main focus of these classes is to develop a useful practical skill and find easy ways to achieve what we want. There's no need to aspire to be the next top designer, and no pressure to launch into anything too serious. Sewing should be fun and easy for everyone!
Once a week classes consist of a 1½ hour session on a Friday morning or a Thursday evening, running during week 2 to week 10 of school term time ( 9/10 May to 4/5 July with the exception of 23 May for Thursday students). Registration is available to current students now. I will be calling my waiting list for new students on Sunday 14 April.
